Construction Junction - Cabin Refurbishing Project Continues

We're putting our studio in a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But FIRST, we have to refurbish this place!

This morning began with a heavy shawl of mist slung around the mountaintops visible from the cabin windows. Thankfully, it’s burned off and today is shaping up to offer a healthy heap of sun - much needed.

For anyone who is reading WoolTribe in the Wild for the first time, here’s the short story: We’re a small business focused on carefully crafted color hand applied to American made products including wool fiber and yarn for crafters, and beanies and scarves for people who want totally unique ready-to-wear items. You can learn all about us and our products here: wooltribe.co.

We owned a yarn shop for five years, and bought a lot with the intention of building a new location for our retail store and our dye studio. The building process hit snag after snag, and ultimately, we sold the lot and we’ve bought a cabin in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin needs a ton of love, but she has great bones! So, we decided to take on the task of bringing her up to speed. She will house our dye studio, and she will also provide space for very small groups to come visit us from time to time.

The cabin is very near the adorable town of West Jefferson - full of great shopping, good grub, and lovely, wide sidewalks welcoming visitors with the prospect of strolls past numerous murals. Also nearby are many natural attractions, trails, and lookout points. The Ashe County Chamber of Commerce has a fantastic list of many of these attractions!

Our cabin is also just 20 minutes from Boone with all it has to offer. Banner Elk and Blowing Rock are also within reach of the cabin for fun day trips. We’re just two hours from Charlotte, making this a perfect for weekend trips.

We are working toward getting our studio cranked up. It will be housed in the lower level of the cabin, and we are excited to dye several orders for our business partners who are going to be doing some really fun things with our yarn!

We’d love for you to come along on this wild ride of a cabin refurbishing project. Today is likely to include installation of insulation in the lower level studio ceiling. We’re still working on priming everything and we’re looking forward to having the the wood paneled ceilings stained and clear coated. New kitchen appliances and a facelift on the kitchen cabinets are also in the works, as is a beautiful stone backsplash. Exterior stain and a metal roof will complete the look. Then we will move on to outside work.

Thanks for following along! Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any of this adventure we’ve undertaken!
